Remediation: Let's Practice

For this journal, you will be remediating journal #1 (which you did on our blog).

You choose what medium to remediate to--it can be as hard or as easy as you would like (BUT a wordle does not count as a remediation). Think of this like a practice run/playing around with remediation before you actually have to do it for a grade. So have some fun with. =)

Depending on the medium you choose, depends on how you will post to the blog. It might be a link, a video, a jpg, etc.

Include with your remediation a quick (like a couple sentence) explanation about why your remediation is, in fact, a remediation (hint: you might want to use what you've been reading as evidence and support).

This is remediation, because I took the journal that I wrote, in the form of a blog, and used images, as well as short excerpts from the blog to create something new. The glog is repurposed because it does not include all of the text from the blog, so basically it is a quick summary of what rhetorical situation is.

  2. For my remediation blog, I took my original blog on Bitzer's rhetorical situation and transformed it into a comic strip. Using my love for Sailor Moon as the major theme, I took what I thought was a quite boring argument (on my part), and turned it into a sketch on Bitzer's three main constituents.

This is remediation because I took my Rhetoric textbook, the source of the information in my blogpost, and brought it into the realm of photography. I further remediated that by adding text and images to the photo. The final product contains short quotes from my blogpost that pretty much sum up what Bitzer's rhetorical situation is.

Oh, and the cartoon was just something funny I wanted to add, though it can also be seen as an example of the rhetorical situation. =)

For this remediation, I took my information and work from journal #1 and remediated into a short clip. The clip shows a man using a "Situation Machine." Here, the situations into which the man is transported play on the idea that the rhetoric and speech (in this case, music) are dictated by the rhetorical situation.

For my remediation I looked over my original blog post and was immediately inspired to make a collage type picture thing on Glogster. I used one of the examples, the JFK address, and used images to portray the audience he was working with that the time. It shows the three parts: exigence, audience and constraints.

I chose to do a glogster to get a feel for different media when choosing to do a remediation. I recalled discussing Bitzer's ideology on Rhetorical situation among classmates in my first blog, and after playing around with my glog, came up with this take on the discussion.

The above image is my reflection on the steps towards recognizing a rhetorical situation. Bitzer mentions acknowledging and exigence and choosing an audience to take discourse action against. In all, the steps Bitzer discusses allows us to analyze any rhetorical situation worldwide and throughout history, hence the antique globe. The hand drawn doodles are significant of how a composer addresses certain rhetorical situations.

The remediation of my journal is an illustration. It's a guy holding up signs for a cause (exigence). The audience stands facing the guy protesting/rallying, and constraints are represented by the fence in front of them. This represents Bitzer's rhetorical situation in action.

I made a little glogster poster of a real-life template for Bitzer's theory on rhetorical situation.

I made a "glogster" poster on my take of The Rhetorical Situation. Basically a cycle-esque diagram. This is a remediation because I took my first blog post as inspiration for this new piece, which is in another format.

  11. This is a remediation of my blog on the process of rhetoric. I chose to show how a caterpillar turns into a butterfly. I used Bitzer's examples in order to make a funny time line, based on the exigence, the audience, the constraints and the outcome. The two caterpillars are basically trying to persuade the other two that becoming a butterfly is cool. I believe this is a remediation because while it does take the process of rhetoric into play, it shows it in a more funny and cute way.

I remediated my Journal 1 blog by creating a diagram, keywords only based around a picture depicting a retorician (Winston Churchill), a pyramid (obvious reference to the rhetoric triangle diagrams), and a mixed audience. I like that the audience is from all around the world and Churchill is throwing up a peace sign :) It qualifies as a remediation because it transfers from print to online images to convey the message.

The image that I created is a remediation because I took the journal that I had written that was written media and transformed some it into a picture. The picture does not say everything that the journal did but it has the same message. There are a couple excerpts from the journal but it’s still different enough to be a remediation.

I choose to make a "glog", basically a graphic blog and it is a remediation of my original journal post because it relays the same idea/concept however in a different format. I decided to make my like a "cycle" diagram to effectly show that rhetoric is a “fitting” response to a situation.

I created a Glog based on the example of Abraham Lincoln's Gettysburg Address that I used in my post. I used the image of the hands to show his exigence of slavery, the picture of the crowd is one from the actual Address and I used a depiction of "American Gothic"and a field of cotton to show an example of his constraints. I would consider this a remediation because I took my ideas that I originally composed for print and switched them to an image/graphic based medium while still keeping the same basic idea.

I used my blog entry on “what is rhetoric?” I played up my opinions of how rhetoric can function as art, in the most classic or abstract ways. I also wanted to emphasize the way rhetoric is used as a political tool, as well as a tool and means of education… I especially wanted to maintain the idea of abstract thoughts and expression when I was transferring my blog ideas to the glogster… I also wanted to keep in mind the fact that rhetoric can serve as a means for action!

  17. I chose to remediate my post on "rhetorical situation." I used Bitzer's theories on rhetorical situation and exigence, audience, and constraints to help support my remediation and the photo I came up with on Glog.

  18. I think that the glogster I created is a remediation because I took each of my ideas from my Journal #1 and transformed them into images. It is definitely a new medium and it isn't just a summary of my previous post, it is a new creation of my previous ideas in a new medium. Yay :)

I chose to remediate my first journal post as a prezi. My post discussed Bitzer's rhetorical situation so i chose to show a picture of what i consider to be a rhetorical situation(an performer on stage)and break it down into its many parts. This is a remediation because it's taking my original concept and making it visual and interactive.

This is a remediation of my reflection of my project 1. I chose to do it because as I reflected, there were lots of thoughts going through my head and I thought it would be good to actually show the thoughts of little thought bubbles, show clouds literally over my head, and show my web of ideas. This remediation was actually really fun, it it so interesting how my reflection convays the same message via glogster.

This is my remediation of my Journal #1 through glogster! This was so much fun to make! Anyways, because the first journal was a little confusing to me on what Rhetoric and a Rhetorical Situation was, I used the cat in the glog to represent my freak out. Then used the other images to present what I have learned and what my idea at the time was. It's a remediation because I transfered text into pictures with short explinations.

This is a remediation of journal 1. I used an online comic strip creator (readthinkwrite.org) for the basic images. The site lets you print the strip so you can add color, which I did, then I scanned it in and voila.
